Autumn Essence
I’ve been trying for years to get that “perfect” Autumn image. Normally I take some months, at least, before I rate a new image, but this one struck me right away. I think it is the balance between the sharply focused aspens in the foreground and the soft background which creates the painting-like effect that I really love. Ironically, I shot this quickly, in the rain, while holding an umbrella.. a shot that almost didn’t happen at all.

Mystical Mirror
I worked my way into to this scene at Ruby Beach in Washington slowly, over the course of an hour or so. It started out as a nice, but fairly routine sunset shot; then, as I moved around trying different angles and found this glassy pool reflecting the beautiful sea stacks, the fractal-like abstract design suddenly became apparent to me. Finally, the soft pastel colors of twilight brought the shot all together, lasting for just a couple of minutes.
