Island in the Stream
While following a stream down into a slot canyon in Utah, I came to this spot, where I had to pause in order to scramble over a small drop-off... and noticed this small stone was creating an interesting composition possibility. An off-hand shot at the time, it turned to be one of my favorites.
Sun Bather
Deep inside one of the amazing slot canyons of NE Arizona, I found this lonely bit of tumbleweed resting in a nook of the textured canyon walls, perfectly spotlighted in light from high above.
Ocean Sculpted
These rocks spend much of their time under water and are carved into limitless, smooth shapes by the ocean waves, making for plenty of interesting texture/color studies.

The Giant Marbles
Time and erosion have left behind these amazing geometric stacks of granite that appear to have been delibrately pieced together.

A small log that found it's way down into one of the caverns of a slot canyon in Arizona, resting on the textured rock wall and illuminated only by the light from above.

Algadones Dunes-2
Tucked into the far southeast corner of California, next to the Arizona and Mexican borders, is a huge dune field that is largely used for recreational vehicles, but the northern section is a protected vehicle-free wilderness of sand that seems to go on forever.

Dancing Flame
This shape and color of this one always reminds me of the dancing flame on a candle. The little streak of light in the lower left corner is the result of someone walking in front of my camera briefly during the roughly 35 sec. exposure that was necessary in this dark environment.
